AS/400 Message Monitoring
QSYSOPR
My manager wants me to be able to monitor messages for our two AS/400s. Is there a way to send break messages to my desktop for the qsysopr messages. I have to remember to display messages every hour to see if there are any messages requiring a reply.

Will this break the Qsysopr messages on my user sign on only? That is what I mean. Right now I have to do a dspmsg qsysopr in order to view the messages. She would like the messages to break when I am signed onto the AS/400 under my user id.

Hi, Yes, this changes the delivery of the message queue for the job where you run the command, not for all other users. Regards, Martin Gilbert.

TRFCTL, Just came across your question. You should look at Message Monitoring in Management Centeral. I am currently using it to monitor for specific messages on 2 i5 servers. I have it sending me an email, but you could have it sending break messages to your message queue or whatever you could code in a trigger program. Hope this helps, Bill

We use a product from ByteWare called MPLUS to do this.

iSeries Navigator has terrific message monitoring features built-in. You can monitor multiple systems from your desktop running a single instance of iNav. It won't solve the issue of delivering break messages but it will give you a single point to check. Its very handy. iNav supports taking a user-defined action for a set of user-defined messages. If there are critical messages which require immediate response, this may be your no-cost ticket.
