Memory Usage

Howdy All,

Trying to understand our systems memory usage & do we need more Memory installed/allocated?

Running a 9117-MMA with our i partition allocated 25GB Memory.

Looking at the WRKSYSSTS screen is see the following;

Current unprotect used :    58284 M

Maximum unprotect  . . :   977157 M

So looking at the Current unprotect used amount, does this mean we are using double the amount of actual Memory installed ?

As for the Maximum unprotect figure - we had a lovely runaway Sequel job to thank for that!!

Thanks, Tonks.

    Current unprotect used : 58284 M Maximum unprotect . . : 977157 M Those figures refer specifically to DASD rather than 'memory'. Basically, they tell you (1) how much DASD is currently being used by temporary objects and (2) the maximum DASD that was used by temporary objects since the last IPL. You do show that some kind of runaway job (probably building intermediate result tables or indexes) chewed up a lot of DASD. It shows essentially some 977GB of DASD was pulled in; but it was all released. At the time of the display, jobs were using 58GB of DASD. Mostly because it's temporary stuff, the content is unprotected. BTW, I recommend getting comfortable with DSPSYSSTS rather than WRKSYSSTS. The DSP command has no input-capable fields. Tom
