CPU utilization at 100% during backup across LAN for a couple of minutes. No, more memory may not solve this problem. 1st - How big is the 'pipe' for that LAN segment? (10mb/100mb/1000mb) 2nd - How big is the backup and can you control the process to throttle the bandwidth usage? (You implied that this is a new problem. What changed about the backup?) 3rd - Look at the logs during the time of the hang. Is it a hang from 'tape drive not ready', or a hang from 'file creation error' (permissions), or a hang from 'disk full'. While more memory is always nice, it can only help local processes, or the caching of some network jobs. Good luck.
