Media Mount Fail on Symantec Backup Exec 12
We have a tape rotation system that uses 10 tapes and so we have two weeks worth of backups. A few months ago, we started getting this media mount failed error for just one tape (Wednesday 2 tape). We tried replacing that tape with a brand new one and still get this error each time we use that tape. We tried performing a long clean process on that tape before using it again, but that did not solve the problem. The tape thinks it is full and requests another tape to complete the backup, but it is the only tape that does this. All of our backups are full backups set to overright. Any suggestions?

Where and when do you get the “media mount fail” error message ? is it a message from the OS, or the backup software ?

And when you tried with a new tape, did you get the exact same error ?

The tape thinks it is full and requests another tape to complete the backup, but it is the only tape that does this

So, although you get an error when mounting the tape, the tape is recognized. Does the backup software see it as full from the beginning, or that happens after writing some data ?
