Hi,

In Denny's excellent blog on loading data into Master Data Services, he populated the staging tables as follows:

INSERT INTO mdm.tblStgMember (ModelName, HierarchyName, EntityName, MemberType_ID, MemberName, MemberCode) VALUES ('Adventure Works', NULL, 'FirstName', 1, '', 1), ('Adventure Works', NULL, 'LastName', 1, '', 2), ('Adventure Works', NULL, 'EmployeeId', 1, '', 3)

INSERT INTO mdm.tblStgMemberAttribute (ModelName, EntityName, MemberType_ID, MemberCode, AttributeName, AttributeValue) VALUES ('Adventure Works', 'Employee', 1, 1, 'FirstName', 'Bill'), ('Adventure Works', 'Employee', 1, 2, 'LastName', 'Gates'), ('Adventure Works', 'Employee', 1, 3, 'EmployeeId', '1')

INSERT INTO mdm.tblStgMemberAttribute (ModelName, EntityName, MemberType_ID, MemberCode, AttributeName, AttributeValue) VALUES ('Adventure Works', 'Employee', 1, 1, 'FirstName', 'Steve'), ('Adventure Works', 'Employee', 1, 2, 'LastName', 'Balmer'), ('Adventure Works', 'Employee', 1, 3, 'EmployeeId', '2')

I'm not following why attribute names are inserted into mdm.tblStgMember. To my (admittedly newbie) way of thinking, the load should look like

INSERT INTO mdm.tblStgMember (ModelName, HierarchyName, EntityName, MemberType_ID, MemberName, MemberCode) VALUES ('Adventure Works', NULL, 'Employee', 1, '', 1), ('Adventure Works', NULL, 'Employee', 1, '', 2)

INSERT INTO mdm.tblStgMemberAttribute (ModelName, EntityName, MemberType_ID, MemberCode, AttributeName, AttributeValue) VALUES ('Adventure Works', 'Employee', 1, 1, 'FirstName', 'Bill'), ('Adventure Works', 'Employee', 1, 1, 'LastName', 'Gates'), ('Adventure Works', 'Employee', 1, 1, 'EmployeeId', '1')

INSERT INTO mdm.tblStgMemberAttribute (ModelName, EntityName, MemberType_ID, MemberCode, AttributeName, AttributeValue) VALUES ('Adventure Works', 'Employee', 1, 2, 'FirstName', 'Steve'), ('Adventure Works', 'Employee', 1, 2, 'LastName', 'Balmer'), ('Adventure Works', 'Employee', 1, 2, 'EmployeeId', '2')

Can anyone please clear up my confusion. Tks.

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

The mdm.tblStgMember table is basically the schema that the data will be stored in. Where mdm.tblStgMemberAttribute is the values.

The whole MDM thing is very complex.

I’m glad you liked the articles.
