If you display all asteriks, that is what it will read back in.
You can use DSPATR(ND) which will not display the value.

    The only thing I've seen like that was to have a 1-position CHECK(ER) field for the user to type into. Each character typed into that field causes the display record to be passed back to the program. The program captures each character and concatenates it to the password variable. The program also concatenates an "*" on to the end of the displayed password field which is defined as 'O'utput only, and the display record is sent out again. As terisks are seen by the user as filling the password field one at a time. Some other means, such as a F-key, is needed for the user to tell the program that the complete password has been entered. Some other F-key could be used to signal a back-space. This kind of thing isn't well suited for block-mode terminal devices. It will be very cumbersome when the system is updated to allow 128-char pass-phrases. Tom
