This is a link that lists training that is available and certification requirements for most any part of a System i as well as other IBM hardware and software and even some related technology training paths. I find Cisco training and certifications has been particularly useful in my career. IBM’s is defiantly not antiquated technology, it should actually be considered cutting edge. The Fastest Machine in the world is The IBM roadrunner- the predecessor also IBM(the Blue Gene in Livermore) It comes with a slue of server features that can and does literally consume an entire Windows Server Farm into one or two machines. They rarely make trouble and are known for rock solid reliability and grade A support. Competition for the position is what would worry me. As any administrator applying for the position will have some level of field experience. I remember when I applied to a position as an grave yard operator at a Casino. I was hired because of my previous AS/400 work at a dairy foods distribution company. Good Luck on your interview!
