mandrake 10.2 on dell poweredge 1850 doesn’t network

I installed mandrake 10.2 on a dell 1850 and configured IP during install. After reboot, ifconfig showed no IPv4 bound to the interfaces. Manually adding an IP with ifconfig showed an IP but the interface still couldn't ping itself. After this a reboot made the interfaces go away. ifconfig only showed the loopback and serial interfaces. The server came with dual intel Gbit interfaces. Installing a PCI 3com gave the same results. When I installed white box linux there were no issues with networking. Can anyone suggest how to get our standard disribution to work with these servers? thanks. rt

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Generally when we setup an high security level on mandrake sometimes this happens. However you could setup yours networks interfaces to zeroconf. If you could show your /etc/modprobe.conf and /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth(0-1) I can help you better.
Bye…

I think you are on the right track. Since this will go in the DMZ, I set it for high security. I normally don't do that. It will be a day or two before I can put mandrake back on but I will test it with lower security. Can you point me to a link explaining what the higher security settings do? I was planning on using iptables anyway to limit access on this system to just DNS from the world and SSH and webmin from our internal net. I will let you know what I find. Thanks. rt

Clark: You were right. When I installed mandrake with standard security, the IP was properly bound and I could ping other devices. Next, I will do the high security install again and see if I can get the information you asked for. thanks. rt

Now I'm really confused. I wiped the mandrake install on the second server with low security and re-installed with the OS set to paranoid. Connectivity works just fine. The two servers are the same model and were purchased together. I'm not aware of any differences in configuration. Since I'm running out of time, I'm going to play it safe and use white box on both servers. Thanks. rt
