 Malware search redirects
Google Redirect Virus, malware, Redirect Virus, Search redirect virus
Hi, can anyone tell me how long this type of malware has been about. I can see that search redirect malware seems to be very prolific right now, but how many years has this been going on. Thanks

Wee the search hijacking has come in place since about 10 years now; it initially started with the simple HOSTS injection where the attackers simply wrote "1.2.3.4 mymalware.com" in the HOSTS file; the evolution has then gone to BHO (Browser Helper Objects) and other hijacking techniques. ================= The best thing you have to do with your computer system is scan the entire system using a good and effective antivirus software. If scanning is not effective, reformat the entire system and install an effective antivirus software afterward.

Maybe my imagination – but it does seem like more incidents of Redirect Virus of late. I’ve had more “non-computer” friends ask for help lately. I don’t know why there would be more now though – perhaps just a coincidence?

I actually haven’t seen an uptick in their occurrence. I do seem to recall such malware really coming onto the scene 3-4 years ago.
