Can Oracle 10g be made compatible with 8.1? I've installed 10g then 8.1. When I try to connect to an 8.1 database, i get the error:
"[MERANT][ODBC Oracle 8 driver]Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed.[MERANT][ODBC Oracle 8 driver]Optional feature not implemented.{MERANT][ODBC Oracle driver][Oracle 8]ORA-12154: tns:could not resolve the connect identirier specified"
Thanks!

Providing more details could help the community understand the situation.
“I’ve installed 10g then 8.1”
Are you referring to the server or the client software ?
What is the operating system ?
Do you really need to have the 2 versions installed ?
“When I try to connect to an 8.1 database”
Where are you trying to connect from ? an application ? If so, what language ?
Can you connect from an Oracle application such as SQL*Plus ?
I’m on the client side. I’ve asked our support group if I can run 10g, but I suspect I’ll have to use 8.1. I think P6 requires 10g. I’m new at this, so I don’t know the answers to the rest of your questions with certainty.
I’m Running Access to connect.
“I’ve asked our support group if I can run 10g”
What did they answer ?
The existence of two different versions of the client software is probably causing the error.
What is “P6″ ?
Whatever it is, if it requires Oracle 10g, that requirement most likely refers to the database version, not the client software.
