Make a file in a rich-text field behave the same on the Web and in client

How do you attach a file to a rich-text field on the Web, so that it will behave the same way as it does in the client?

For example, I might want to attach a file in a rich-text field and then access it later by clicking on that attachment icon in the field.

Can anyone offer me any help?
