Mail in the 'sent file' is being deleted automatically. It does not go to the deleted file. It first happened 10 days ago, then 4 and then 1 day ago. I have Vista Home premium and McAfee virus protection. Scanning has not shown any thing untoward -but I have my suspicions.

This sounds like a classic case of rules gone wrong. Check rules running in Outlook. Some rules may transfer emails to another folder, some might delete them immediately. Rules can be found in the Tools drop down on the main menu bar.

Your question is not entirely clear, are ALL sent items being deleted or just some? If only some of them, does there appear to be an age limit when they begin disappearing?

There is no age limit. I purchased the curent computer in May. The sent file I built up (100 approx) disappeared. Then 4 days later the few that I had sent disappeared and then 2 days later the very few I had then disappeared. They are not in the Archives, and there is nothing in the deleted fileasking me to 'permanently delete'. I have checked rules, archiving etc and can find nothing that seems to indicate the files should be removed.

This may be a dumb question, but does anyone else have access to your computer?

The computer is not used by anybody else except me. Again the two or three emails I had sent since the last group were deleted have also been deleted along with a new sub folder I created to move sent files to. It would appear that any mails in the sent file are deleted and also any sub folder of the sent folder get deleted. One suggestion I have is that Outlook 2003 is having conflicts with Vista.
