Can not open mail.box, the fixup command fails. Any attempts to perform actions with a bd mailbox stop the service of the Lotus Domino and create an nsd file. Is it possible to open it in some other way? Attempt to open as a local copy leads to client closure Lotus

Software/Hardware used:
Lotus Domino 6.5.5

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

As they found out the reason for stopping the service, and renamed mai.box to create a new one. It was necessary to open and restore the jammed mail. Replica with bad mail.box opened, put the replay back on the server as mail.box all the docs left.

Assuming you asked for nsd log. For this reason, probably the nsd related service is running as background of the OS. Type services.msc (assuming Windows) on search field and open it. And look for lotus notes diagnostics service, when find right click on it and select properties. Choose start up type option & make change as automatic to manual. After that stop the service. Now restart LN and check it that works. For more help, please link here, http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21204263

Does a utility like NotePeek open the file?

@Stiletto, why did you ask? Have you downloaded / installed the same and what error did you face?

Okay, look at it this way. It's mail.box. It holds nothing but transient msgs (usually). If you simply delete it, the system will create a new one. So, the only reason to care about opening it is to recover whatever may be in there. Since the server won't open it, I thought trying to open the file with NotesPeek was an option worth considering.
