Hi,

I'd like to create a macro (in AS/400 or Excel VBA, doesn't matter) that copies cell data from an XLS spreadsheet to AS/400. How would I do that?

E.g. copying cell A1 in Sheet1 from c:spreadsheet.xls to 10/035...

Thanks in advance.

Software/Hardware used:
AS400

Are you looking to copy the entire worksheet or just portions of the data? Is this going into a work file or the actual production file on the AS/400? For sending the entire work sheet you can use the Excel add-in for the i-Series.

The main idea is to link data that used by users in excel format with AS/400 to improve the speed and accuracy of data entry tasks. I need to use Fields or cells in this spreadsheet to copy it to AS400 screen by using copy/paste and autofill features.

    More details for what I need 1 copy the data in A1, 2 alt-tab to AS400, 3 paste. 4 Alt-tab to excel 5 tab to B1 6 copy the data in B1, 7 Alt-tab to the as400. 8 Hit tab like 3 times to the field I need, 9 paste, 10 enter

You need to be careful when doing things like this. If you have multiple users updating the same as/400 i-Series database you could end up with your data getting out of sync. But it sounds like you are just trying to copy/paste a bunch of fields to an i-Series input screen, is that correct?

Never had that kind of request in my 30+ years on an as/400 (old school name). Not sure it is possible because of the way the screens are done the IBM side of things. Once a screen is displayed it is usually waiting on an enter or function key to process the next piece of code. I don't see how a macro will take data from Excel and load the values on the screen with out having to rebuild it. Maybe a screen scraping application ? I have never used them.

If I ever find some free time I'll have to check out that Autoit code further. It looks very interesting. Thanks for posting your solution hanisadeq9635.
