How can I locate a stolen desk top being used on the internet if I have got the MAC Address for the onboard network adaptor card

Unfortunately, you can not locate a stolen laptop on the internet by it's MAC address. However, you should report this information to the police and your insurance company so that if it comes up it can be identified.

true, if you have desktops in areas where they could be stolen or laptops that are out of the office often you can buy software called LoJack that will check in with servers everytime they connect with the internet. once they do you can pinpoint exact who has it.

Yes, I read an article about a guy who was able to find his computer becasue he used SETI@Home and somehow he was able to get them, the ISP, and the police to coordinate to find the machine. Unfortunately, that in itself is a miracle and not the norm.
