What do you mean by “too much time” ? Is it a question of seconds or minutes ?
ST 7.5.x takes up to 30 s to start from my experience. The average being around 10 to20 s depending on the computer performance. I assume this is related to the usage of Java.
This is true in 7.5.0 and 7.5.1.
There is two fix for ST 7.5.1 : CF1 (Jan 2008) and CF2 (June 2008), I am not sure if they help start-up performance though.

I am unsure you can d/l them without a passport advantage account.
ST Client 7.5 can be dowloaded from passport advantage site, part number CR48BNA
I also add a problem with computer being cold started : the anti-virus was slowing down a lot the startup time of ST Connect (up to 2 minutes). Maybe that’s your problem.
Last but not least, startup performance is far better with ST Connect 8.
