Oracle error messages
Hi, I am supporting a lotus notes web application in LN 6.5.5. It has connectivity to Oracle for retrieving some details and display to end users. Off late, we are getting an error message intermittently and the error is "ORA-1254 TNS Could not resolve service name". Upon checking we found that tnsnames.ora file is present in the server, and tnsping to database server is having no issue. Have you faced any similar issue in the past? Will you be able to help me out by giving some idea on how we can move forward for troubleshooting.

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

There is a utility in the install folder for Notes (the same folder as notes.exe and nlnotes.exe) called ndctest.exe. I don’t know how your connection is configured. If it is on the server, then you need access to the server so you can run it from there to test the connection. It is odd that you intermittently get the errors. If you can log on to Oracle using SQL-Plus from the computer that is configured for oracle, and you can connect using ndctest.exe, you should be able to in Notes.

This connectivity is fine. Last day, we had a combined meeting with network and DB team. Upon checking found that when this error occurs, apparently no network packet goes out of the lotus notes server to oracle database. Something wrong with the way it has been handled at lotus notes webserver/app server. Any idea on how we can get more trace on this part? Are you aware of any settings that can be monitored/ changed to improve database connectivity from notes app server?
