It started on my Welcome page. The calendar view shows a single column heading of '#'. There are a few entries under this heading such as:
1
1.1
1.2
1.3
2
Double-clicking any of these brings up a calendar entry.
Viewing the file via Domino for Web Access or Domino Access for MS-Outlook shows the calendar data just fine. Opening a calendar tab was showingthe calendar data without problems, but the yesterday I was updating my schedule for activities toward the end of the week. When I finished the updates, I clicked on 'Today' to go back to today's schedule in the calendar and I received an error dialog stating "Cannot execute the specified command." Then my calendar tab went to looking just like the pane does on the Welcome page.
I've tried the following and they haven't corrected the problem:
- Running Fixup
- Deleting/renaming Bookmarks.nsf
- Deleting/renaming Desktop.ndk
- Deleting/renaming Cache.ndk
- uninstalling & reinstalling
What else can I try?

Thanks for your help. I worked with our administrator and I’ve refreshed the design. This got the calendar working in a tab–although it’s still no good on the Welcome page. I’ve also since discovered that the source of the problem is definitely using the ‘Today’ link on the CalendarFS Left2. Anytime I click it the functional calendar view is gone.
Do you have any further suggestions?
It would appear we’re back to bookmarks and views. Did you show your administrator my suggestions? Did they follow any of them? The problem sounds like it is not your mailfile (you can probably have them test on their computer to confirm this), but in the Notes Client. That’s why I suggested the booksmarks and views fix.
Also, despite IBM/Lotus’ claim that the workspace is becoming “obsolete,” having to compact the workspace to fix issues like this has become one of our first lines of troubleshooting.
Thanks so much for your help.
Yes, we followed your process all the way through. The basic calendar view is now fine. (Except when I click the today link in the left frame–pardon my misuse if my terminology isn’t accurate.)
He opened my database in his notes client and the view was fine until he clicked the ‘Today’ link. Then the view was ‘corrupted.’ It continues wot work O.K. for me in my client (except for the ‘Today’ link).
A couple of questions:
Is it corrupted in any view or just one particular view (i.e., monthly, weekly, two weeks, two work weeks, etc.)?
Does it stay corrupted when you switch views (i.e., monthly to weekly, one-day to two-day, etc.)?
Once it’s corrupted, do you have to go through all the troubleshooting? Or is there something you can do to make the proper view come back (switch views, close calendar and reopen, close database and reopen, close Notes and reopen)?
Another “clean-up” troubleshooting technique I have used (talk to your administrator again) is to open the problem mailfile in Domino Designer, delete all Forms, Views and Sub-Forms — under “Shared Code.” (Unless you are a real power user, these should all be default design elements.) Then update the design of the mailfile from the server. If there is corruption of a form or view this may clear it up.
Good luck.
To answer your questions. Yes, the corruption happens in all views (monthly, weekly, two weeks, two work weeks, etc.). Once the view is corrupted, the options to switch views is gone. All I get is the odd-looking outline as described in my first post. The action bar and other options are gone. A right mouse-click yields only a basic database click menu–nothing calendar specific.
To get the calendar view back, I’ve had to either refresh or replace the design (from the server).
To simplify life, I copied the ($Calendar) view to one named Basic Calendar and set it to appear in the View menu. If I select this, the view works. After selecting ‘Basic Calendar’, I can usually close the view and re-open the standard calendar view. This was working until tonight–now nothing seems to correct the problem.
I tried your suggestion of deleting the Forms, Views, and Sub-Forms. and then updating the design from the server. This worked just like the other fixes I’ve tried. Everything was fine except the TODAY hot-spot.
UPDALL is scheduled to run in the middle of the night. I’ll do the other steps, see what happens after UDPALL tonight, and let you know the results tomorrow.
Thanks so much again for helping out. I really appreciate it.
Just one additional update. I tried replacing the design from Mail6.nsf on my local install. This recovered the standard calendar view.
I’ll do the other recovery steps and let you know what happens after UPDALL.
Thanks again.
The clean-up procedures recovered the Calendar view when I open it in a tab, but nothing seems to have worked to fix the view on the Welcome page. It’s always the same outline-type format–without any real information.
Where does the view on the Welcome page come from?
The Welcome Page is part of the bookmarks. Possible solutions are (in order of annoyance):
1) Switch to a different welcome page
2) Create a new welcome page with the same info as your current one.
3) Delete your bookmark.nsf and cache.ndk, empty the recycle bin, let it recreate
4) Delete cache.ndk and both bookmark.nsf AND bookmark.ntf; empty the recycle bin. You will need to get a replacement bookmark.ntf file from another user. If the corruption is coming from the ntf file, then you’ll continue to have the same problems when you delete and recreate the nsf; but the ntf file is the template; that should clear the corruption.
Hopefully, ONE of these should do the trick!
I’ve recreated many Welcome pages and they all show the corrupted calendar view as described in my initial post. I replaced the bookmark.ntf file with one from another PC where it’s been installed. After recreating the Welcome page on restarting Notes, the corruption is still there.
Anyone know how to get a calendar icon back i have lost mine?
