Basically (no pun intended), the Basic client is the client you're used to from previous versions. The Standard version includes the Eclipse wrapper, and therefore you get the the pre-canned widgets and the ability to add more. The Basic client is smaller, loads faster, uses less memory, etc. (in my experience). So, on older equipment, this is good. You can install the Standard version, and if it proves to be too much for the box, just add "/basic" to the command line that launches the app. HTH.
