The previous answer was incorrect. The correct answer is 64 gb, at least on Windows, but this includes view indexes and anything else the server needs to manage the database. As a discussion comment states 25 - GB is probably appropriate. However, anything getting in the large range (> 5 GB) must use every Best Practice available to ensure that the server doesn't get bogged down updating view indexes, etc.
Of course, all databases should use best practices so they don't have to undergo an overhaul when they get large and start causing problems.

We have one that’s 15GB – 262,000 documents, and it performs just fine.
Definitely not 1 GB as the answer seems to imply. A practical limit seems to be in the neighborhood of 25-30 GB from my experience. That being said, if the DB just collects data and has a few (5 or less) simple views, I think you could go as Lotus’ previous suggested limit of 64 GB. There is a point where performance will be impacted – especially when view indexes make up the largest portion of the database size.
