Lotus Notes 7.0.3 client startup failure on Vista
Lotus Notes 7.x, Lotus Notes 7, Lotus Notes 7.0.3, Lotus Notes, Vista, Lotus Notes client
On selection of notes icon the following messages appears : "You can not use the Administrator program while the domino server is running. Either shutdown the domino server or choose the icon Lotus Notes instead".

Notes then exits.
Problem is that we did select the Lotus Notes icon put there by the install process AND there is no evidence of any Domino server running on the client machine. The Domino server is in another city.

Whenever we've seen this error, the problem has been related to permissions on the folders at the OS level. IIRC, in our case, the issue was that the user needs to have write permissions to the Notes folder - because Notes modifies the notes.ini. Originally, our security folks thought the users only needed write permissions to the Data folder, so they locked the others down. HTH.

Add the user to the lotus folder with full control - this should fix your issue
