based on your senerio , there must be some wrong setting on you Archive setting.
1. please check the archive setting.
2. If its ok then Go to data folder ----> search for archive folder. If its existing on data folder .
3. Inside Archive folder should have archive database. for e.g xyz_a.nsf.
4. If it exist then you can double click and open in notes client. and check all the archive mails are there or not ?
5. If yes then you have to reset you archive setting based on the below steps.

a) Cut the archive database from Archive folder and paste in other location as a backup copy.
b) Go to archive setting and disable and re-enabled it from tools -->archive .
c) while enable it give a names as per you choice the archive database name.
d) Then try to do the archive by selecting one document.
e) If the selected document archive successfully , try to open from archive navigator?
f) Go to the archive database backup and do the offline maintenance of the database( Fixup, updall).
g). then rename the backup copy name with current archive database name eg. the new archive database name xyz_a.nsf under archive folder. Then rename the backup copy by xyz_a.nsf.
i) once rename then copy the entire xyz_a.nsf and go to archive folder and paste it . It will pop you that already file name is exist , replace it.

K) once copying done close your notes client and re-open notes client .
l) Then try to open from navigator and check....

Best of luck ...have a good day.
