Lotus Notes 8.5—After an invitation has been sent out, and there is one more invitee to add I was told……
to remove the earlier invitees and just add the new invitee to the list and send.  a note came up asking if I wanted all the participants to see the new invite and I clicked 'no'.  so in essense, all the invitees were deleted, it came off their calendar and I caught heck from my boss.  she had to go back in an re-invite all.....why did this happen?

Answer Wiki:
Well, in this case Notes did what you asked it to. If you "Remove" an invitee, they are removed from the meeting. It was not the "send notice to all invitees.." that got you, but the fact that you did the Remove action. The correct way to do this would be to simple add the new invitee. It never hurts to let the Notes client send the notice to all invitees.

If you send out a diary invitation to 5 people: Jack, Jill, Rita, Sue & Bob for a meeting which they all accept etc
If you then add an extra attendees – lets call him Paul – the invite is sent to Paul.
The flaw is Jack, Jill, Rita, Sue & Bob cannot see on their invite that you have invited Paul.

Apart from deleting and resending, is there a fix for this?

Restating: If you add someone to a Lotus Notes meeting, how do the original invitee’s get to see the new invite list?

In Outlook you can send an invitation ONLY to the new invitee.  Is there a way to do that in Lotus Notes?  I have to add the new invitees when my boss tells me to but people in large meetings are getting annoyed with the constant email messages for the same meeting.
