If you are going to store some images. (invoices etc) then you can use a system called ALCHEMY. We use this lots for filling etc. This way we have it scanned into the netowork and we can scan on customers etc. Its expensive but well worth the price.

Just to clarify my post, the copier isn't connected to just one computer (although it can be). The copier is connected to the network and is given a ip address. You can then send scans to any computer on the network. You load the document management software for the copier on any computer you want to be able to receive scans and enter the ip address for those computers into the copier.

thanks for all your input guys! We do lease our copiers and have many network canon copiers. I have not looked into doing this on some of the canons but it may be possible. also we are trying to find the best solution to do this, but with out the scanner, copier, ect hooked directly to a computer.

You can also look into using a network copier. If you lease your copier they may have a multi-function models that you can change to. You can scan multiple pages at a time and you can send it to a desktop or an email address which can be programmed into the machine. We use a Panasonic copier and have scanned 20 to 30 pages at a time to different pc's. If you need color scans you will need to verify that the copier will scan in color.

Many of the med level or higher Multi-Function Printers can perform this capability. They have the ability to scan to user box (on the system), network location or e-mail the scan. One item to consider is how you will add access control in our SOX world. With that in mind, where I work uses scan to e-mail with the user having to authenticate with their AD ID to send the e-mail.

the Fujitsu fi-6010N is a great networked scanner and is pleasure with a price. The problem I face with it is that it gets jammed for a while after scanning five to six copies and one has to wait for two minutes to get the scanning signals cleared. I don't know if Fujitsu can increase its cache memory!
