Login problems on Windows server 2003
I am having problems logging into my Windows Server 2003. I log in and get logged out right away. I think it is my software registry hive. What can I do? I have system back ups but not the system state. We use Arcserve for backup from another computer to LTO2 tapes.

Via Microsoft due to possible virus infection, try this:
Edit these values and type the correct path of shell :
Shell = explorer.exe
Userinit=X:windowssystem32userinit.exe
NOTE: These files may also be deleted by spywares. You may need to extract them using Windows CD.
Steps for rectifying this problem:
Log on to a networked computer.
Run Regedit.exe
Point your cursor to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Select File > Connect Remote Registry
Type computer name (infected computer)
Navigate to the following location in registry of destination or infected computer
HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionWinlogon
Edit these two values in right pane:
Shell
Userinit
Change these two values to
Shell=explorer.exe
Userinit = x:windowssystem32userinit.exe
Exit from Registry
Restart Infected computer.
You should be able to log on to computer.

There might be possible problems in you registry files or the system files of your Windows Server 2003 software. If you are seeing this errors frequently, you really need to backup your important files to another storage device this is just a precautionary measure.

ITKE, The DllCache folder (c:windowssystem32dllcache) maintains a copy of userinit.exe. Simply copy it to the system32 folder. If not, you may have to expand a copy from the source. (either from the Windows XP CD, or from the ServicePackFiles source path)
As you’re unable to login to the system at present, either use Bart’s PE boot CD, or use the parallel Windows XP installation (if available) to carryout the file/registry operations.

was erase of the regsitry for the virus, i can fixit.
