The first step to this is to check with your application vendor to determine if your application is a candidate for adding to your image. Some applications do not handle this well! Other applications require special options to be set during installation or anonymization after the install. In some cases, you may need to set user options during the first user login (add a script to the default user runonce key and remember these need to work as a standard user).

What I find for some items (managed AV can be one of them) is to set the image to auto login as administrator and run the installations. This can be set to reboot as many times as needed to install items. For Windows 7 I need to reboot back into adminstrator once to complete all the setups.

Items such as Office 2010 (Office was made image aware in Off 2007 and required a command line option prior to that) can be added to the "gold" image.

Good point Troy.

In previous Windows versions I think imaging was not an option when different hardware combinations were involved, but that is not the case anymore.

@Rechil, take a look:

The link is about slipstreaming drivers, but it can be done with windows updates/patches as well. Now, TeachMeIT would like to add third party applications.

Maybe you can find a link to help him out.
