 Sharing pool of memory on Windows Server 2003 virtual machines

If I have four virtual machines running on a windows server 2003 can we share a memory pool across all of them since they will never be using it at the same time as the others because they are doing load balancing?

You don't mention what virtualization software you are using. Some (VMWare in particular) allow over-subscription of memory but most do not. In other words, you can have a host machine with 8GB of RAM and 4 VMs with each allocated 4GB (16 total). Many (most?) virtualization software will not allow you to run with more than your physical RAM allocated to your running VMs.

That seems odd. I’d expect load-balancing to increase the chance of concurrent usage of any shared resource.
