List trusted site in Internet Explorer 7

'm trying to change my Windows Update to Microsoft Update, but IE7 tells me it can't open http://update.microsoft.com until I add it to the trusted sites. When I enter that address to add it, IE7 says it cannot add it unless the prefix is https. I already have https://update.microsoft.com in the trusted site list, but I can't seem to get past this catch-22 about having to list http://update etc but not being able to do so because it is http, not https. I tried downgrading the security settings to the lowest level but that didn't make a difference.
