Here's the deal. As an experienced PC and Macintosh technician, I find myself very much at a disadvantage when it comes to using Linux. I've been able to install various flavors from Fedora to CentOS to Ubuntu ( the process is rather straightforward), but once installed, other than using the OS, I'm pretty much at a loss....
I am aware that the various devices resident on a given system are controlled by config files (correct me if I'm wrong), but what I'm wondering is if there is a way (built in or add-on) to view the system hardware components in a way similar to Windows' Device Manager or the System Information panel in MacOS.
I currently have an Ubuntu 8.x (8.04???) installation on a HP nc6400 system but the TPM module and fingerprint reader do not work. I'm not tied to any given flavor of Linux, so if one might be more appropriate to learn on, please share your thoughts....
Thanks in advance,
