Linksys router issue
Routers, WEP, Network connectivity, Wireless networking, WPA2, Linksys Routers, Linksys WRT54G
We are a small organization using Linksys WRT54G wireless routers in a section of our offices. One router will not accept a change from WEP to WPA2. Attempts to update the firmware (in the hopes that this would resolve the issue) fail both from the external updater and from within the router configuration web pages. Is this router toast, or is there any way resurrect it?

Have you reset the linksys? I used to have this type of issue with same linksys WRT54G after couple time of reseting and reconfigure it work if not then is time for a new router. I hope this help!!!!!

This siteoffers an escalating scale of resetting methods. Note that the more extreme method involves opening up the router and shorting the pins to reset it. IF YOU MAKE a MISTAKE YOU CAN KILL YOUR ROUTER.....! Follow the instructions exactly. I've used the last method on page three twice, once is worked, once it did not. If you have doubts, then don't do it. Voltages inside the router SHOULD be safe, but any time you are opening the case of anything electrical, you are at some level of risk. As I said it worked for me once, but failed once.

You should definitely do a factory reset of the router…Your firmware upgrade’s readme file should state whether or not WPA2 is supported. Depending on how valuable your time is, you may be better off just buying a new router that you know supports WPA2.
