You might also consider shutting it done every couple of weeks and cracking it open and taking a can of air and cleaning it out. That would also depend on the human traffic in the area, but, we do this about once a month and our systems are never turned off.

As long as the screen is in sleep mode or a screensaver is on; it should be fine. Apart from the electricity being used…. Shouldn’t have any issues…

my office pc is also left 24/7. i agree with Carlos, invest in a better PSU and with enough power your hard disk and it will last longer. if there is enough power your parts wont be fighting for power too.

In addition to PSUs, another common problem is dust clogging air intakes. The intakes slowly close up, and air flow is reduced. Heat starts to build around processor chips. The chips either fail or they signal for shutdowns. Shutdowns can cause corruption of files. Failed chips require hardware replacement. Simple periodic inspection and clearing of air intakes can extend lifetimes for extra years. Blowing dust out of the interior is also recommended. — Tom

Most of the times, it is the PSU what fails when running 24×7 for a long period of time. If what this PC does is important, I would recommend at least making sure it has a good PSU, designed for heavy work.
