 Learning Protocol Analysis
I need a couple of recommendations for material on learning to read packet captures and protocol analysis. Has anyone read the book Ethereal Packet Sniffing? From a review I read, it seems like it might not be much more help than the Users Guide .pdf that you can get with Ethereal. Has anyone used the CD's put out by Laura Chappell of the Protocol Analysis Institute, and do you think they are in depth enough for the price ($ 2000.00 for the Master Library)? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Answer Wiki:
I know it's not the same thing, but I think the book by Stephen Northcutt "Network Intrusion Detection" is a really good reference for protocol analysis. He goes into great detail and shows multiple examples of packet captures. The book is now in its 3rd edition. Best regards, Telecomking
