layout mode
In the layout mode, whenever I left click the mouse, the layout background turns completely black, hiding all the headings, titles, and data field boxes already on the layout. How can I prevent the layout from turning black, so I can see the layout and arrange the data field boxes in a manner I want? As an example, whenever I create a data field and try to move the data field box to a location I want, I am unable to see the layout itself because the background is completely black. I have to guess the position where the field should be when moving it. When the left click is not depressed, the layout background returns to normal.

FileMaker 7 Pro Software, Windows 7:

In the layout mode, whenever I left click the mouse, the layout background turns black which in turn hides the layout screen.  Thus, I am unable to arrange the position of any field "box" to a location that I want on the layout.  I can't see the header lines or other field "boxes" previously placed.
