Hello, I have a server 2003SBE running my exchange 2003 server, along with AD, DHCP, and DNS. The issue at hand is as follows, if I send and an email over 1mb in size to domain1.com it will sit in the queue and 9 times out of 10 it will time out, but if i send that same domain1.com an email under 1mb in size it shoots right through the system. I have done quite a bit of testing on this and still cant figure out why it is not working. I have sent a 5mb message to multiple domains including domain1.com all but the one to domain1.com goes through. I know they guy that is running the other exchange box so I have been working with him directly on this. we have ruled out his server, as we can send the same email from a hotmail account with no delay. I am getting no errors, other then the error for the time out. We have opened both server to allow send/recv of anything and this issue is still there.

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

You will probably need to get some packet captures using something like Microsoft Network Monitor 3.1 or even better Wireshark and watch the SMTP sessions between the two servers and see the transaction traffic. This is provided that the traffic does not go over TLS but is straight SMTP traffic.

check domain1.com smtp settings. there are sending and receiving limit in exchange. can you send the same file from another domain other than you exchange server and it goes through? If it does then it is on his size. Also check his mail box settings in exchange for the same .
