My laptop is a few years old and the battery died. So I went ahead and bought a new one. But now, that battery isn't charging anymore either. When I plug it in, it says 'plugged in, not charging'. I'm not sure what to do here. Does anyone have some advice for me?

It’s possible that the new one is bad. If you bought it on line from a lesser know company because it was cheaper, it may have been a reconditioned one. Check with the vendor you purchased it from as to what kind of warranty it has. Depending on how old you lap top was it may be hard to find a certified replacement.

Assuming there is some kind of hardware issue, when inserting new and for that reason this is not charging. You can again carry the laptop to the same hardware shop/ expert and ask for the help. Or check the charger cable.

I faced the same issue for my HP laptop when I bought its battery online. Then I had to refund that battery and buy it from HP authorized reseller. It is working fine now.

Check if the voltage of your home's electrical outlet is correct. It may be low. Also check the outlets are in good condition.
