KVM swithc for HD 5870 eyefinity?
Hi there,
I currently put together a high end computer with a Redeon 5870 eyefinity video cards that supports 6 monitor. Now I would like to install a KVM switch in which I don't if I can do this? The reason why I want to put a KVM switch is because I have the monitors in another location of the Hotel and the computer is the server room we use logmein but quite often we ran into some issues the remote solution. Can someone please help on some good idea to try money is not a problem I just needed to get if fix.

There is a solution that I think you would find suitable if the distance is within spec. I found a <a href="http://www.networktechinc.com/vga-extender.html"><b>company</b></a> that sells a distribution system for linking up to 16 displays @ 500 feet away. Cat5 Ethernet cable would bring the video signal from the Server room and would connect to the main hub which can be hidden somewhere. Then each monitor would have a satellite unit that would also connect with Cat5 and could be mounted somewhere on the display.

A KVM will extend your monitor keyboard and mouse however it will not provide you with 6 monitors for the same PC/Server.
As long as you are not trying to go over 90m through the building (95 absolute max, this would apply to the KVM too) as this is the length of cat5 you can’t pass without extensive signal degregation.
Alternatively have you tried RDP (remote desktop)? it’s as good as being at the physical machine over a lcoal network and it’s free.
If you wanted 6 monitors you would need something like the MATROX screen extenders.
Sorry should have been clearer regarding cat5 length.
You can’t pass 90m without going through something like a switch or router to boost the signal again.
First – what is your final objective – [1] to control several (possibly remote) monitors from a single computer or [2] to control several (possibly remote) computers from a single KVM set?
KVM switch accomplishes the second task – you are sitting at the KVM set and switching between different computers; to do things other way – have a 1 KVM attached to the computer and display the picture(s) at distant monitors you have to use a video splitter and/or extender(s)…
