tried to change keyboard (ps2) while pc running..the pc now refuses to acknowledge keyboard. In device manager there is no soft ware for keyboard access, in fact keyboard not even listed. It is like keyboard has been deleted from system drive!
Will a complete windows 7 install reistall keyboard? or any other ideas

Thanks Rick for answering so quickly.
The keyboard works on a different computer…I don’t have a usb connected keyboard to test on this particular pc. I will borrow one to test.
In the Device manager the keyboard hardware file is empty. … in fact there is no Keyboard entry at all. On my laptop there is about 4 lines of hardware… this makes me wonder if something has been deleted
No probs have you rebooted with it plugged in? tried going to device manager and click the computer icon to search for new hardware?
thanks
Rick
Just restart the system while the keyboard is attached to it
thanks guys
I had previously tried your suggestions, but searched again for new hardware just in case. Unfortunately nothing happens after “search for new plug and play” hardware option is clicked in Device Mangager.
I shall borrow usb keyboard today to try (I am in Australia) to confirm it is a PS2 problem or a OS problem
tks
A standard keyboard should not need any drivers installed, they should be in place, as they are standard for PS/2. If you are in the device manager and the keyboard has no driver or it is empty it sounds like a corruption in Windows. Try the USB route that should eliminate the need of a PS/2 driver all together. If that doesn’t work you may need to repair Windows or try to install the driver for PS/2, I have never done this nor know if it is possible. I imagine it wouldn’t be to easy without a keyboard. Have you determined that the PS/2 port is functioning and that the motherboard is not bad?
Thanks Rick for your suggestions
The USB keyboard worked …so must have been a windows issue. I have a Windows 7 upgrade coming soon in mail so I will do clean install. Whatever we now know it is PS2 problem
tks again
