Hi patrickScott12! The "Linux Kernel" is the operating system kernel used by Linux in Unix operating systems.

In general, I believe "kernel" is the center of a computer operating system.

Thank you very much Michael and Tom for your answers. As a person who eagers to learn and trying to dig deep into topics and terms, I really love to look at things from different views so as to form bases for better understanding.

From our discussion, it motivates me to investigate and this is what I try to come up with; Kernel is a computer program that plays a vital role in the computer's operating system or in other words we can say it is the core of the computer operating system. Its function is to manage input and output requests from softwares or applications and translates these request into a language that is understandable by the computer to the CPU, Memory and other component of a computer.
