I have a spooled file that has data in the "USER DEFINED DATA" parameter, when I apply my print definition to this spooled file, I loose the data in the "USER DEFINED DATA" parameter. How do I apply my print definition AND KEEP the data in the "USER DEFINED DATA" parameter?

Not the answer but a question.
What do you mean by: apply my print definition?
Is this using an OVRPRTF command?
Tks

Sorry to ask so many questions.
Answers without questions are sooo much better and so often wrong.
So I didn’t really get an answer as to how you were making this change.
I assume that you are using OVRPRTF or chgSPLFa to assign the overlay?
Guess you need to assign the User data in the same command.

Phil, maybe I should have used the term "Print Overlay" instead of print definition...... I'm just taking a spooled file entry from the AS/400 iSeries and adding a Print Overlay (Invoice). the spooled file entry has a parameter for "User Defined Data" which will be used by another program as criteria to email this to the email address in the "User Defined Data" parameter. When I apply the Print Overlay it wipes out the information in the "User Defined Data" and therefore the program being called does not have an email address. Is there a parameter in the AFP Overlay that I am missing?

This is the help-text for the User Defined Data parameter of the CRTPRTF command: Specifies, for spooled output only, the user-defined data to be used by user applications or user-specified programs that process spooled files. Does what you are doing qualify as "user applications or user-specified programs"? If not, it looks like the user defined data does not apply.

Your use of user defined data is valid. We use it exactly as you do. Sorry, I don' t have an answer for the disappearance of the data.
