Good Day, An issue.. any one could help me out with, would be fantastic. Trying to join my ubuntu workstation to a test domain I have running. I'm a beginner linux user but I know my domain is usable and XP and other Server machines are joined to it and working wonderfully. I use the commands sudo domainjoin-cli join IPADDRESS Administrator and also tried sudo domainjoin-cli join --ou DOMAINComputers IPADDRESS Administrator I've also tried to switch ip address to the domain name with no luck My usual error is "domain join operation failed to create the computer account in Active Director. Common causes are a bad administrator password, a bad OU name, or an existing computer account without modification permissions." Any help is much appreciated... I am a beginner user so if you could spell it out so I can better understand Linux that would be amazing. Thank you very much

They are making this really easy for us nowadays. I remember how insanely hard this was back in the day.
Simply follow these steps from your Ubuntu machine and have your AD credentials ready. As long as your AD is working properly these are the steps you will need to take:

1. sudo apt-get update
2. sudo apt-get install likewise-open
3. sudo domainjoin-cli join fqdn.of.your.domain Administrator
4. sudo update-rc.d likewise-open defaults
5. sudo /etc/init.d/likewise-open start

After that is done, you can log out, then log back in with your domain\username account (You have to add the domain\ first).
