 Joining 2 LANs
hi, I have two internet connections cum LANs in two departments of office, each having same ISP, hub and 4 PCs. Now I want to connect both LANs only for local file sharing, without disturbing their own seperate internet connections. i want that all 8 computers can share files but an internet connction will support only 4 computers.

what you can do is, add a router. connect both your ISP routers to this router. the file sharing system will be connected to the new router. if it is not clear, i would clarify it for you, but i would like to see a drawing of the network since it will help me more.

There are good ways and bad to achieve this. Since there is no explanation as to why these need to remain separate I will not mention it any further or offer any advice about that.

Simply get a switch that support 802.1q and layer 3 routing, create 3 VLANs and connect router A and all those PCs to ports in VLAN 1 and likewise router B and those PCs to ports in VLAN 2 and finally servers into VLAN 3.

Users will on both networks will be able to see the servers and still use their own internet connections.
