You definitely need to get some hands-on experience...that's way more important than any of these certs you're talking about. You also need to know what you want, what you're good at, and have well-defined goals so you'll know where you're headed. I've written articles on careers, certifcations, etc. as well as audio programs on how to be effective and successful in security and IT. Best of luck!

Another way to get experience is to do consulting. Build a small client database from friends and family and spread out. I maintain a small clientele of business and individual's who I do contract work for on an as needed basis. It gives experience and you can build a lit of references.

Also MCSE is on Server 2K3, maybe consider doing the MCITP on Server 08, so your training is on the latest technology. Then if you want go back and get or finish MCSE some of the courses for MCITP will carry over for MCSE, if you do the Vista and I am assuming Win7 certs they can count towards OS and or electives for MCSE and count towards MCITP.
