Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

The ENDJOBABN cannot be issued until the normal ENDJOB has been running for at least 10 minutes. Then this can take up to an additional 5 minutes to complete.
I have not had this happen toi me for many years. When it did, I tried to to end the subssystem and if that does not clear the job, I had to IPL.

if already jung job not clear ....ENDBS QINTER also remains in hung status.. I can leave the job till next IPL(when ever it happends),i dont bother about it..since it is a normal user session job.but the problem here is...user(session job) tried to varyoff the Tape library and now the status of Tape library is Vary off pending...not available for Backups....this what my situation..Pls suggest something to bring the tape library to vary on status.. I tried IPLing the IOPs of taplibrary but that didn't work. IPL - ican't since it is production box

A subsystem cannot end until all jobs in the subsystem end first. If a job is hung and the subsystem is ended, then that subsystem also becomes hung. Further, once a subsystem goes into 'ending' status, no new jobs will be accepted by that subsystem. Further still, the subsystem cannot be re-started until it has completed its ending. In general, then, your subsystem is effectively dead until you IPL. For future reference, review the ENDJOBABN and PWRDWNSYS; MSSD Procedure document. Also, be extremely careful about which IOPs you try to IPL. Avoid any that might also have DASD on them. Tom

Just an idea, but if you have IBM support they may, have in the past for me, webex in and find a way in alter-dump, active storage space, to end the process. They don't like to do it, but if you've spent enough money with them they will sometimes give it a shot. IPLing is cleaner and less risk.

We have that happen on occasion. The only way we can kill the job is using operations navigator. Go to the system in question, then work management, active jobs and look fo the job with a suspended status most likely. Then right clin got to Delete/end and set the values for cancellation.

They don’t like to do it, but if you’ve spent enough money with them... :-) Yep, that's probably another way to get it done. Having enough familiarity with Display/Alter/Dump can get almost anything done. I'd have to see iNav actually succeed at this, though. Tom

I've had this kind of situation for another SBS, but because it was IPL time, I just did an IPL as I think its equivalent when you do a ENDJOBABN.

i've tried with iSeries Navigator ,even that didn't work.. I contacted to IBM..as they said they don't have idea or not suggested in this situation.. Still looking for help...badly i was in a situation where i can't IPL the system for next 13 days.. :-)

i was in a situation where i can’t IPL the system for next 13 days.. The subsystem will not be available for 13 days in that case. There is nothing that can be done about it (without a possible service through IBM Consult Line (a fee-based extension of Support Line). If the subsystem had not been ended, things probably would have been fine. This is a major reason that a subsystem should not be ended until after all jobs in the subsystem have ended first. The only useful suggestion that I have is to use a different subsystem. I can't tell if any devices are temporarily locked into your QINTER, but they shouldn't be. You should be able just to create a new interactive subsystem, define devices in it and start it up. If there's no way to make that work due to locked allocations or other obstacles, then maybe someone else will have a good idea. Tom

Have you tried WRKMLBSTS and Deallocating the drives from the Library ? Another option is to reboot the library through the Library's interface, or even Cutting the devices power ?

When you ran VRYCFG to vary it off, did you try the FRCVRYOFF(*LOCK) parameter? Tom

Suggest going through other systems/lpars and vary off on all.

To All I was on 13th day and system tried to reach restricted state for the FULLSAVE backup, but it was failed b'cause of the same hung job which is sitting in QINTER.eventhough QINTER is in *END status(i was expected this before),so,i tried PWRDWNSYS for restart even that didn't work, this time i tried from the HMC for restart with immediate option,System went for IPL. and i successfully varied on the Tape Library now :-) Now the system IPL status in Abnormal, Do we need any special attention on system after system comes from Abnormal IPL.?

First to mind is that before you apply unattended PTFs next, be sure to do an IPL first that changes the IPL status indicator(you can find this on an HMC) to normal or PTFs won't apply.
