College degrees are a positive thing when job hunting in any field, but if you don’t have some experience on top of the degree, getting a foot in the door can be difficult. If you ad a few certifications to your resume, such as the Comptia certs, you might find an easy time getting an interview. If you have other skills, such as manufacturing, or sales, you might be able to leverage those with you technical training.
I agree with Flame; college degrees are always positive, but hands on experience is really important. Degrees help you getting the job; experience helps you keep that job.
You did not mention your location, but I think a college degree could be more important depending on the location. In my country, for example, if you do not have a college degree, you will find very hard to get the chance of an interview, whether you have experience or not.
