 IT company structure
I am currently doing some market analysis on the structure of a software vendor. I am trying to gain an understanding of the average size of departments in terms of technical and sales functions. For example, I believe that most companies will have a pre-sales/sales engineer for every 2-3 sales people. Can anyone advise me on this and how big the development team would be in comparison? Thanks.

Answer Wiki:
The size of the development team will vary based on how large the software package is and how quickly it needs to go to market. The larger the package the more people you need. The faster you want to get the product to market the more people you need. ************************* About the pre-sales engineers, I worked in the past for a company in which the relation was about 1 engineer for every 3 sales executives, but the engineers assigning was done depending on the line of software involved. There was a software package that almost needed a 1 to 1 relation, but there was other lines that could have worked with a 1 to 5 relation.
