Our organization would like to do an internal audit of our IT department but don't know what we're looking for. Is there a standard checklist of things we should be looking at, like for Financial Audits?

In most internal IT audit situations, the IT auditor will utilize a risk-based approach in selecting IT audit areas. Once the audit area selection process is completed, the IT auditor can then acquire or prepare audit steps for specific IT auditable units, such as Windows’ Active Directory. Available sources for generating specific IT audit program steps include: textbooks, workbooks, web sites, professional groups and other practicing IT auditors.
