There are two types:
1) <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real_time_clock">Real Time Clock</a> that counts time in human units.
2) <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clock_signal">Circuit Clocks</a> which are used to regulate the digital electronics frequencies.
