The main cause for freezing computer system is corrupt documents. I can be due to virus attack or any other reason. to resolve your problem uninstall MS office and then install again. If you are getting this error only due to MS word file then repair it with word repair tool.

I have seen almost the same behavior with computers with office 2007 and HP printers as default, if this is your case try to change your default printer to anything else and see if this still happens.
