iseries print screen problem

Q:
iseries print screen problem
my iseries runs on OS/400 5.4

Most of my PC's have iseries access 5.4 installed and the users can use the print screen function with no problems.

I have 2 PCs (running XP) that will not load 5.4. I keep getting a runtime 106 error.

I've loaded iseries access 5.3 on both machines and they can access the system, BUT the print screen function produces a blank page rather than the screen shot normally provided.

I've tried uninstalling iseries access, and reinstalling. Uninstalling and reinstalling the printer.

Everything I've looked at so far says I need to install the latest PTF on my primary box, but I've already done that, and no dice

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks

Try using a PDT. You access this in client access by going to file/printer setup and selecting the check box next to USE PDT. Then click on the SELECT PDT button and select the PDT that most closely matches your printer. The one we use the most around here is hppcl5.pdt.

Tried the PDT option.

Clicked print screen and the printer does not even produce a blank sheet. Nothing.

Strange that all the other PCs work, except these 2

Thanks for the advice

Do you have any additional information about the cause of the errors with the 5.4 version on the XP machines?

Try this, set the printer you want to use as the default on the PC and then under the same path as before (file/printer setup) select the option to Use Windows Default Printer.

Also, have you tried any of this while signed on to the machine as the administrator? I don’t know if it would make a difference, but it might.

What service pack level is applied for System i Access V5R4? When you get “a runtime 106 error”, where does it come out of? The install itself?

Hi

I put the access disk in the drive. Launch works OK. I answer all the usual questions, and the software begins to install. It gets to about 1%, then stops and displays the runtime error.
I’m assuming it is something to do with the PCs, but I can’t see how they are any different from the others on the network
Each user has admin authority on their PC, but I will retry the installation signed on as the main Administrator account and report back

Was installing 5.4 on a new Vista machine, and got the same 106 error.

I decided that I would try reinstalling using the original 5.4 disk supplier with the system (we normally use copies of the iseries access disk)

This time 5.4 installed with no problems

I’m now going to try and install the 2 PCs using this original disk (They are off site, so I need to send it out to the PC location)

Will report back when I have more

FYI

The error reads as follows:

An error occurred during the move data process - 106
INSTALL
Component : InstallShared
File Group : Shared
File : Cwbindlg.dll
Runtime Error
