We are replacing a V4R5 720 with a 570 V5R3. I have conflicting information from a couple different sources regarding our migration path for On Demand 5769 RD1 and ImagePlus Visual Info 5769 VI1 from V4R5 to V5R3. Do we first have to upgrade our 720 to V5R1 or R2, or can we restore directly from V4R5 to V5R3 with these products? Thanks for any help.

Hi

You can find the migration information path
at the IBM Information Center:

Be very careful. You are mixing upgrades with migrations here. The first being program files RD1, VI1 and the second being data migration. The OS should already be on the 570 and probably the program files. The data files are where the rubber hits the road. There have been a few major changes to Content Manage Od-Demand and Content Manager since the V4R5 time frame. So you should investigate this carefully before proceeding. I believe that that most prudent procedure would be to upgrade the 720 to V5R3 first and I would make sure I followe every upgrade recommandition in the CM readmes as you upgrade to V5R1, V5R2 and V5R3. There are many DB400 patches that are not on the qume that will need to be applied also. Finally if you have any application that ultize the CM APIs you will need to test them during the upgrade / migration. Though the OS migration is a no brainer these two application have become very complex and you should not expect that you can move the data from one version to another. Also if you have mmore that 1 i5 remember that V5R3 does not talk SNA so your remote queues need to be set up for TCP/IP. Best advise bring in experts to assist if you do not have a very indepth knowledge of these products.
